There are a number of specialist staff groups that meet regularly to support colleagues with advice about particular protected characteristics and requirements. For general information, please contact our Equality and Inclusion Manager.
Purpose: Wes Baker, Director of Strategic Analytics, Economics and Population Health Management, wants to hear from you as part of setting up a dyslexic and dyspraxia network. He wants to explore the benefits of neurodiversity and anything we can do as a Trust to make ourselves more accessible and better informed.
Membership: any staff member who has dyslexia or dyspraxia, or has colleagues or family who need advice or support in these areas
Meetings: to be agreed. Our first session suggested that the latter part of a day would be best to minimise people’s travel time

The group was launched in national dyslexia awareness week 2019 which had as one of the themes businesses and organisations empowering people with dyslexia. Dyslexia spans every job, every culture, every stage of life and every part of society.
Mersey Care is playing its part in fostering an environment where people with neurodiversity are empowered to play to their considerable strengths.
We have been working with the British Dyslexia Association, who have told us that as a hidden difficulty, in some workplaces staff can find that they're not able to share the issues they have with emails, organising their work or planning.
Helen Boden, the CEO of the British Dyslexia Association, told us:
"A network is a safe space for people to connect with those who've had similar experiences. Empowering dyslexia isn’t just an issue of managing weaknesses and complying with the law, it is about coming together as an organisation at all levels, and exploring the value dyslexia is bringing now and how to maximise that in future. We are thrilled with Mersey Care's network launch."

Thank you to colleagues who have already been in touch following the feature in a recent staff newsletter and the first meetings. We've no formal agenda as yet – this is for the new group to decide. We recognise the range of skills and experiences people have that will help to support our progress.
